HGI & Wireless Energy demo “SkyHybrid” unit at Telefónica’s Energy & Climate change Global Workshop in Madrid

From 1st - 3rd September 2010 HGI, in conjunction with the Chilean based company Wireless Energy, exhibited and demonstrated the “SkyHybrid” power unit for remote telecoms applications.

The workshop was organised by Telefónica to bring the industry together to analyse the best projects for positioning ICT (Information Communications Technology) at the centre of the solution to climate change.

In addition to 25 senior managers from Telefónica, the event attracted leading companies involved in energy efficiency systems and solutions including Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, Siemens Networks, Emerson, CommScope, Utilyx, Schneider Electric, Eltek Valere, FIAMM, 1E and UPL as well as HGI and Wireless Energy.

One of the overall objectives at the workshop was to look at how to reduce the Telefónica Group’s energy consumption as part of an incentive to cut electricity use within Telefónica’s networks by 30% by 2015.

The “SkyHybrid” unit was presented as one way in which the customer can achieve their target by making use of wind and solar renewable energy sources backed up by HGI’s proven 48V DC telecoms generator.

The unit is currently under-going customer trials in Chile and will be available for general sale in the near future.
