CRES the New High Flying Generator

29th October 2007

Firelink is a common wide area, digital radio system that enables all Regional Fire Services to communicate with each other from anywhere in the UK.

The original system installed in the 70’s had reached the end of its useful life and had limited functionality or development potential.  So, to meet new operational requirements, which have occurred since the events of 9/11, HGI have come up with new power solutions.

As a part of the Firelink Project, HGI now supplies various power options, (including our new Compact Renewable Energy System), to back up the radio systems in the event of a main power failure.  It has been a huge logistical undertaking to install over 1000 solutions across the UK, of which 600 have been installed in only 10 months, in some very remote areas with difficult terrain.  Access to some sites is only by helicopter, so our equipment needs to work first time every time.

CRES also meets the demand for a robust and reliable renewable power system which is compact and available now.

Each of the sites has remote telemetry as standard, operating on the GSM network (our digital system will be on line next year), capable of notifying our maintenance department of any problems or low fuel levels.  If a fault requires an engineer to visit, it is also possible to communicate with the site, so that a temporary fix can be programmed in, until the engineer arrives, thus maintaining the high level of operational radio coverage demanded by the Fire Service and we are able to back this up with a 3½ hour response time to fix any service faults, via our UK network of engineers, including the Highlands and Islands.

Don’t hesitate to talk to our Telecoms team regarding your stand by and prime power needs.
